South Austin Guitar Repair

Andrew made some repairs to my husband's vintage Epiphone bass. Someone had put a bizarre pick up combination in it. All you could hear was feedback. Andrew made an appointment for us right away and the bass was ready in an acceptable amount of time. What a difference! He did great work and his price was fair. Well make the drive from Hempstead to Austin again the next time we need work on an instrument!

 by Andrew N.

Incredible service, honest pricing, and great work. Definitely recommend for any guitar repairs.

 by Mark D.

Excellent service and rates. Not to be confused with the guitar repair shop in South Austin Music store --tech also named Andrew---who are abominable

 by Ruby F.

Andrew offered exceptional service and a wonderfully seamless customer experience. My brand new guitar was super tough to play and needed it’s action adjusted. We met and he suggested that I also get thicker gauge strings. I’m so happy I trusted his suggestion because I left with a guitar that I absolutely love to play!

 by Jeff C.

Andrew did a great job with my Squier Affinity Telecaster. There was fret buzz and the factory nut I wanted replaced.

He fixed the fret buzz, polished the frets and replaced the nut.

Also a setup for intonation, etc.

Highly recommended!

He is very friendly and does the work in a timely fashion!

Thank You Andrew!

 by John H.

Andrew did a great job setting up my Les Paul! He had it ready for me quickly and did a great job for a fair price. I will definitely be coming back next time I need work done.

 by J Hernandez

My experience with South Austin Guitar Repair was great. Andrew was professional, welcoming, and personable. He did a wonderful job restoring my old Charvel. Would definitely recommend. Price was much lower than I expected as well as the turn around time.

 by Joshua B.

I’m so glad I connected with South Austin Guitar Repair. I had a couple of reclamation projects that I was stuck on and he was able to quickly diagnose the issues and get both of these instruments into game shape. Andrew knows his stuff, is super efficient and does great work at more than fair rates. I just dropped off another for a setup, and I’ll be taking all my guitars to Andrew in the future.

 by Trent T.

Completely satisfied with my guitar after working with Andrew! Fell in love with it all over again.

'04 Gibson SG Standard: Installed new pickups and modded the wiring harness to accompany single coil taps + phase/series options.

Excellence over the top! Pristine work.. There were 5 frets replaced frets replaced on a 9 year old Gibson Hummingbird I bought new in 2013. When I picked it up, ALL the frets looked like the day I opened the case up the first day of purchase and could not tell which ones were replaced. He like a magician in his work. He doesn't put anyone ahead of you like some other shops I have dealt with in the past including working musicians, everybody stands in the same line! Andrew also has a very fast turn around time! I feel very fortunate and privileged to have had Andrew work on my guitar! Gals and Guys, he's worth more than what he charges so be a little generous and pass a few more bucks his way!

 by Irene R.

Andrew was extremely responsive and very knowledgeable. My son was having some electrical issues with his bass. Andrew fixed them quickly and for a fair price. Would definitely recommend and use again!

 by Richard B.

Andrew did great work on my guitar. I brought it in for him to look at and decide if it needed a refret or just a fret level, and to also have a setup done on it. Andrew explained the process and detailed the reasons why it needed new frets. He got the job done quickly and the guitar now plays so well - it's like night and day from how it was before!

 by Steven R.

Great communication, great service, and quick turnaround. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended.

 by Derek P.

Andrew quickly repaired a crack in my old 12 string guitar at a fair price. Will come here again with all future repairs!

 by Thomas M.

Great turn time around on my Schecter, he even fixed a buzzing on the D string that was quite confusing. He was very communicative and gave me a lot of detail and always kept me up to date on the repair status. I will refer all my guitar owning friends to South Austin Guitar Repair.

 by Stephen B.

Had some frets leveled. Top quality work, good turn around time, and very reasonable pricing! My new go to repair shop.

 by Steven G.

Andrew reset a pulled bridge on acoustic Ferringron bass that has tremendous sentimental value although structurally a POS. His work was immaculate, he replaced strings, battery, and otherwise went well beyond what I expected to make sure the result was better than I thought possible. My only regret is that it took me a few months to review. Now I can scare my dog again and relive the golden age of glorious, flowing locks! Almost forgot to mention, came back sooner than promised. Thanks again.

Had a New Bass Guitar..Set-up .. And string tree installed.. Bass plays GREAT!!! now .. Out of the box.. Bass had horrible set-up and strings..And a bad clanking noise..coming from the "a" string.. Andrew fixed the Horrible clanking noise & got the Guitar set-up right.. My bass is a real player now.. Thank You

 by William J.

I had Andrew do a nut replacement, string swap, setup, and pickup swap on two guitars, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. This guy knows what he’s doing, and charged a very fair price. He’ll be my first call in the future!

 by Dwayne D.

I drove down to Austin from San Angelo a 3 1/2 hour drive to have my Fender P-bass set up correctly. Very impressed and highly recommend Andrew! Will have all my guitar/bass work done at South Austin Guitar Repair.

 by Alvaro A.

I’m a beginner learning how to play electric guitar. I bought a brand new one recently and was told by a friend to have it professionally set up. I took it to Andrew, who after looking at it for a few minutes told me the guitar looked great and didn’t really need any work. While others would have taken my money and “worked” on a guitar that didn’t need anything done, he was honest and straightforward. I would highly recommend him just based on his honesty and transparency.

 by Casey C.

Excellent, quick results at a completely affordable price. Super nice guy, too. This is definitely my new go to place to get my gear fixed in Austin.

 by Steve

Andrew is a sharp guy he quickly diagnosed the issue with my guitar like taking a drink of water. Those who work in a profession of any length of time get a familiarity and having a talent doesn't hurt. If you are not sure who to trust with your guitar. Andrew is this person.

 by Conklin

Andrew, did a fantastic job on complete refret and new nut on my guitar! I love my guitar now. Thanks Andrew!!

 by Hector B.

I am a few weeks behind in writing this review. Andrew is a very warm and kind person. Andrew is super knowledgeable and proved to be very reliable. I took two guitars in for some adjustments and setups. He did a quality job and in a quick turnaround. I will be bringing him more business in the future. Highly recommended him.

 by CJ H.

I recently got back into guitar playing after a long hiatus and picked up a brand new Yamaha acoustic. Did some checking and I felt it needed a 'setup' so I reached out for an estimate. Andrew got back to me within minutes! Andrew was honest and said it actually looked pretty good as-is, but made some quick adjustments to the action and now it sounds and feels much better. Even gave me some tips on guitar care, moving forward. Definitely would take my axe over to Andrew again.

 by Mathew C.

Andrew is an awesome guy! He met up with me to discuss ideas I had for customizing my PRS and helped me figure out what was best for me. His rates are extremely generous and he even finished the job a few days sooner than expected. Will be coming back soon to get my frets fixed up

 by Zach H.

I bought a scrapper Les Paul on eBay that had all of the wiring ripped out except the pickups. I had no idea what this guitar would sound or play like, so I gave Andrew a call (he answered and I got a quote and appointment set up within 5 minutes) I got there and asked him if I needed a setup, and instead of being un-transparent like other repair places, he tested the intonation and sound right in front of me so that I could hear if it was sounding right. He seemed pretty busy this week and told me it would be about a week's wait for my work to be done. Well, Andrew called me in HALF the time he said it would take to finish the job. He let me play it in his home to make sure everything worked okay. Well, holy cow, this guitar sounds and plays better than the Gibson Les Paul classic I hawked a year ago! His prices are really great too. Definitely going back to Andrew in the future. Thanks!

 by Michael W.

Great work. Fair price.

 by Guerin H.

I took my Strat to Andrew to have the nut replaced, setup, and new strings. Feels like a brand new guitar again at a very reasonable price. It plays and sounds amazing. I'm a very happy customer.

 by Wally W.

To say the service is great and personal would be an understatement. Andrew always takes great care of me and my guitars.

 by Kevin A.

Andrew was Great ! Hands down the best service I've ever received for my guitar. He was very quick, super easy, and charged a very reasonable price. He explained what was wrong and showed me the fix. Will definitely call him first if I ever need any work done 10/10

 by Tom B.

I have a pretty rare Lyle “Trini Lopez” copy, circa late 1960s (Matsumoku Factory). It sat in a case unplayed all these decades. It had some issues from its inception, mainly, the tailpiece was off center and the hole needed to be plugged with a dowel and re-drilled. Also the radius of the bridge did not match the neck. Andrew went through everything: tailpiece, bridge, frets (new frets and crown), nut. Now it all lines up, and the radius of ALL of the above components match, and it now plays like a dream. He also cleaned up the electronics. I am very pleased with Andrew’s work and his fees are fair and in line with the market of quality luthiers nationwide. Plus he taught me some interesting history of the Matsumoku Factory! If you want a top drawer luthier, take your instrument to Andrew. That’s my plan!

 by Dustin P.

Andrew was very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to very quickly and non-invasively fix my guitar and works in a clean, well-organized space. I will certainly come back here for any guitar repair work in the future! High recommended

 by Danny W.

Hi Andrew, I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful job you did on my guitar. It plays so effortlessly (and an acoustic even!) and sounds great. I have 2 other guitars (an Eastman AR403CE and a MIM Strat) and this plays the best of the 3! I had no idea that an acoustic could play so well. Thank you!

 by Jason A.

Andrew did a great job on my Telecaster! He did a set-up and replaced a faulty switch all at a reasonable price.

 by Christian C.

A+ experience with reasonable pricing and great communication along the way. Repaired an old neck on my Tele that had seen better days, and did a bang up job setting it up. I can't put this thing down since I got it back. I even got it back quicker than I expected. Will definitely be coming back with more guitars soon.

 by Max M.

Made my rusty old bass sound like Marcus Miller's bass! And suddenly, I can play better too! I won't say how cheap it was because I think he should charge more!

 by Robin

I had not played my vintage acoustic guitar in many years, it sat in its case in a closet and gradually formed cracks, plus the bridge had split terribly making it unplayable. I took it to Andrew, worried that my fragile old girl would not fare well... Andrew did a wonderful job in the length of time promised, even was able to restore the original bridge, it looks great too! He communicates quickly and price was fair. Having my guitar back has renewed my joy in playing, thank you Andrew! Highly recommend!

 by Mike W.

Great service! Andrew was fast and fixed my fender guitar nut within the weekend. I'm glad to find a great guitar shop!

 by Stephen M.

Excellent work at a fair price with quick turn around time!

 by Steve W.

Super service. Had Andrew set-up a bass. Plays better than ever. Fast service at a very reasonable price!

 by Joseph C.

I was having a lot of trouble setting up my bass how I like it. I assumed because its fairly cheap that I wasn't going to be able to get it close to my old bass. Andrew got it feeling like a totally new instrument, and his price was more than fair. He was more than happy to answer questions I had about things unrelated to the setup as well. I don't think I'd go to anyone else in Austin.

 by Purushotam K.

Brought in my PRS SE with a setup problem and to hardtail the bridge. Andrew helped out fixing those problems and also helped me un-mess up the intonation and neck relief after the fix. Very reasonable fee and excellent service 🙏

 by Trista R.

I would DEFINITELY recommend South Austin Guitar Repair! I had two guitars in need of some work-- a vintage Fender Mustang with some grounding problems and a Gibson SG with broken tuning pegs. I contacted Andrew this afternoon and he told me to bring the guitars right over. Within an hour both guitars were fixed and working perfectly, for only 60 dollars. It was great to be able to get both guitars fixed at once in such a short amount of time, and for such a good price. Great customer experience all around.

 by John S.

I had Andrew do some fret dressing on my bass and now it plays like a million bucks. I'm relieved to know that there's a great guitar repair person available that can keep my instruments in the best playing condition possible.

 by Randy W.

Have to admit, at first, I was a tiny bit concerned about SAGR not being an "actual" shop. But then again, the tech I used (until he moved across the state) worked out of his house too. While talking with Andrew on the phone, he seemed very knowledgeable and professional.

After my arrival and exchanging pleasantries, he listened carefully to all of what I wanted done and how I like my guitars setup. He said he had 3 guitars in front of mine to fix, so I was thinking it'd be several days. Three and half days later...it's ready for pickup. Remember, he has a job too.

One strum of the guitar and I knew it was a quality job. Action is really nice for an acoustic! The bone nut & saddle look very nice. I think the guitar sound great and now it plays great too!

Good pricing, fast turnaround and quality work!

Would I recommend Andrew to a friend? Yes, I would.

Will I use Andrew's services again? Yes

 by Gfire M.

Andrew did an excellent job putting a pickup in my baby Taylor guitar. He even gave me tips on which effects pedals to use to make my guitar sound its very best so that my gigs can go as smoothly as possible.

 by David C.

Great service. Worked on several of my guitars and have not been disappointed.

 by Zoey D.

Highly recommend this place, especially if you need delicate work done on things like Floyd Rose-outfitted guitars. Cost of service is very fair and the work will be done quickly. I even brought in multiple guitars for this guy right before the holidays and they were ready in less than a week. Very cool!

 by Mike W.

Great service! Andrew was fast and fixed my fender guitar nut within the weekend. I'm glad to find a great guitar shop!

 by Dylan K.

Andrew did a fantastic repair on a guitar that had been in storage for over a decade. Turnaround time was less than 24 hours. I would've easily paid double for his service. Definitely recommending Andrew to anyone that needs a setup or repair.

I was having a lot of trouble setting up my bass how I like it. I assumed because its fairly cheap that I wasn't going to be able to get it close to my old bass. Very reasonable price for a set up. My bass feels like a whole new instrument!

 by Adam R.

Andrew does high-quality work at prices lower than anyone else in town. He also has a quick turnaround time and is a pleasure to deal with.

My father and I spent a few months building a guitar, but we needed a professional to put some finishing touches on it--leveling, crowning, and polishing frets; slotting the nut; wiring the pickups; and doing a basic setup. We put quite a bit of time into it, so I wanted to take it to someone I knew would give the job the care and attention it required. But, I'm a student and on a budget, and work from many of the shops adds up fast.

In most cases, it's unreasonable--even unfair--to demand high quality and low prices. After building a guitar, I can certainly understand why some shops feel justified charging higher prices. But somehow, Andrew manages to provide quality and affordability.

After picking up the guitar and playing it for hours, I can say that Andrew's work was top-notch. All of the frets are nicely rounded and polished. The guitar plays smoothly up and down the neck; with relatively low action, there's no buzzing, even with a harder pick attack. He also did a great job on the electronics. The solders in the back cavities are very clean, and there is no crackling or popping when rolling the volume and tone knobs. And of course, he returned the guitar in the same condition he got it. That, even though I brought it to him in a gig-bag. He didn't mention it, but I'm sure it took a little extra care than if it had been in a hardshell case.

On top of all that, he estimated that the job would take a week and a half, but finished it in four days. The whole time, he was very professional and easy to contact. Some of the luthiers at local shops are inclined to cop an attitude if given half the chance--not Andrew. He's a friendly guy without a hint of ego. It's clear that he enjoys and cares about what he's doing, and for people concerned about their instruments, that's the best assurance there is.

 by Eric B.

Andrew is a good dude and does excellent work. I think he puts the attention to detail that you just don't get from large music stores. His prices are very competitive too! I've had him setup a bass and a semi hollow body guitar with a Bigsby and both play better than they ever have. He also gave me advice on getting another guitar of mine to sound better and the advice was spot on.

 by Eric Cosway

Andrew did an excellent job switching out my pickups and creating a bone nut for my LTD. Service was excellent and he is an extremely knowledgeable guy. Very pleased with the service.

 by Thomas H.

I was trying to build my first guitar and Andrew knew exactly how to help me. Really fast. Fairly priced and friendly. If I have any problems in the future I'll surely ring him again.

 by Brian M.

Excellent service, fast turnaround, very reasonable prices. I strongly recommend South Austin Guitar Repair. Andrew is the man!

 by Doug M.

I play guitar for a hobby, and recently got a new Martin acoustic. The action on this guitar was terrible, making a great instrument difficult to play.

Knowing that it needed a full setup, but feeling a bit embarrassed to go to the pro shops, and be talked down to, I turned to Yelp. Andrew had gotten good reviews on Yelp for his speedy repairs and fair costs for his work.

Of course it seems a bit strange going to a house, but Andrew is very professional. He treats your gear with respect. My setup cost $40 plus tax, very fair. The guitar plays beautifully now. Highly recommended

 by Casey S.

With all honesty I'm glad this was the closest repair place to my house. I had a faulty output jack and the guitar needed a set up. He had it done two days before deadline. And it cost a total of $70 to repair the output jack and a set up. Where can you find those prices? Nowhere! He's a super friendly guy and super accessible and you can pretty much pick up your guitar anytime you need to when it's ready. He does a great job and seems to really love to do what he's doing. I have several guitars that I would trust in his hands, don't even bother looking at the negative reviews. Go ahead and take your guitar to Guitar Center or Strait Music and get charged out the ass for a mediocre job or take it to South Austin guitar repair and get it done for cheap and you will not be disappointed. I've had many luthiers touch my guitars and so far he is the best by far.

 by Todd T.

I brought in a Jackson JS32 Warrior to upgrade. I asked him to switch a volume pot, put in a new set of Duncan's, set up a FRS trem and intone. I was not specific about the action seeing as I would have to play it again and figure out how I want to set it for myself. The guitar was done in the time he said and his prices were more than fair. It would be cheaper to do it myself, but I lack the experience and tools and did not want to waste time or ruin my plan for this particular guitar. I saw some other guitars he was working on. He's good at what he does and his prices are very fair. I plan on taking in a couple other guitars.

 by James T.

I completed my first build, a vintage build in the style of a Gibson Explorer, and came down to the last part of the build- the wiring. I purchased all the parts I thought I needed to have it wired the way I though my it should be. I did my research and found Andrew online.

I took my guitar to Andrew and when he saw the parts I had, he suggested a MUCH better wiring setup-one that allowed me to have a tone control, in addition to a 5 position pickup selector rotary knob. He also intonated my setup and it is pitch perfect.

To say I am happy is minimizing how great my experience with Andrew was. I had my guitar back in 3 days. And at a cost that was completely reasonable.

What a great find. I will definitely be bringing Andrew more work in the shape of tasks that I do not have the tools with which to complete.

Andrew is down to earth, really knowledgeable and extremely helpful with his on the spot recommendations.

Highly recommend. Thanks Andrew!

 by Elizabeth M.

Andrew was professional, courteous, and did a fantastic job. I brought my bass in because the pick up had collapsed. He replaced a spring in no time and cleaned up the electronics so it sounds nice and crisp again. AWESOME and he was nice to talk to, too. I definitely recommend him 100%.

 by Rene Vasquez

Andrew is straight-forward and very nice. My bass bridge install was awesome! Great service and fast ! I would recommend his service! Going to bring in the future my Fender Jazz bass for pickup install, thanks Andrew!

 by Jon A.

Andrew was very professional, very cheap, and very prompt. This was my first experience getting my guitar repaired, and he has earned any future business I may require. What I most appreciated was his approachable demeanor. I'm still new to guitar and wasn't always sure what my guitar needed, but he never made me feel dumb for asking questions or exploited my ignorance to make a cheap buck. Highly recommend!

 by The Bulldog

Andrew resurrected my Dean acoustic I use on stage. Frida, my Golden Retriever knocked it off a stand. The headstock snapped. After the repair , at a very reasonable cost, the nasty thing plays better now, stays in tune better than when Dean delivered it to me. If you want second best go to someone else. Between me and you I wish he operated out of NYC.

I needed the nut replaced on my Martin acoustic guitar. I took it to Andrew and he did a great job replacing it. The guitar is actually better now than it was before the nut broke. I thought it was set-up just fine before the repair, well, it is even better now. The new nut looks better than the original one. Andrew did the work in a very timely manner at a very fair price. I highly recommend Andrew he is a real pro.

 by Eric Spoor

My experience with Andrew was one of great communication and quality work. He was flexible around my crunch timeframe and got what I needed done quickly. Would recommend to anyone.

 by Eric S.

Andrew is great. I needed a setup done immediately, I called him and was able to take my bass to him right after I hung up, got the setup done in 2 hours, and picked it back up. Quality work, excellent communication, nice guy. Would recommend to anyone.

 by Noah B.

Knowledgable, fast and cheap. Got worried when I found out he worked out of his home, but I was in a hurry and took it anyway; immediately realized he knew what he was talking about. Fixed the action to perfection in about 8 minutes then I sped off to my performance. Definitely will go to this guy from now on, no question.

 by Jen N.

Andrew was awesome! Brought him a custom carved guitar body along with a box full of all its bits and pieces and in only 2 hours he handed me back a beautifully assembled guitar and even did a very professional setup on it. It played and looked amazing! Very fair rates and extremely professional. I will definitely continue to use his guitar services.

 by Aaron W.

Andrew is a great guy and very knowledgeable. He is also very fast and very reasonably priced. I was really skeptical about leaving my 100% customized LP with someone operating out of an apartment. However after talking to him a little and taking the reviews into consideration I decided what the hell.

He fixed the new graphite nut I installed and set the action up a little better than I could. When I picked it up the next day I was very happy and it was cheaper than I expected. The day after getting my guitar back my little brother called and said he was making a surprise visit to Austin and he had a project for me. He had picked up a '99 LP from a pawn shop and it looked like it came from the mansion of a horror movie. I cleaned it up with my Dunlop cleaning kit and changed out the strings but knew exactly who I was going to take it to. Dropped it off at his place the same week I dropped mine off and after the weekend it was good to go. He fixed a wiring problem on the inside and did a set-up that actually made me jealous. The action and playability on his was better than mine and I have a LP Custom. Lol.

Regardless I know who I'm going to for pick up installation, guitar set ups, wiring problems, and anything else that comes up.

 by David S.

Andrew is amazing, very knowledgeable, professional and timely! He's saved me in a pinch on more than one occasion and has always known exactly what to do!

 by John J.

Whoa. This dude is crazy fast, cheap, and professional. Seems to take a lot of pride in his work. He's an independent who has a shop out of his home, which means (1) lower overhead that gets passed onto me, and (2) personalized attention.

Highly recommended all around, unless you're the sort who thinks taking a guitar to an established shop where the guitar pro has a defeated look on his face from the neverending backlog of work so that you can pay up the a$$ is the way to go.

 by Ryan B.

Any decent hearted musician will find Andrew to be a fast friend. A good guy who does great work. I took my Ibanez acoustic in and he diagnosed the problem before I told him (high action / truss rod issues). He also hunted down a relatively obscure part to get the pickup working again. The shipment of the part is what took the longest - but he let me know about this ahead of time. Now the thing plays better than when I bought it - I'm bloodying the keyboard as I type this! Ha ha... Andrew, if you're reading this, thanks again, man.

 by Sam J.

I took recently purchased used guitar for a setup. Everything was done beautifully and to my liking. Quick turn around and picked my instrument next day. Up on closer inspection and after playing for a bit I could not be happier with quality, attention to detail and over feel of the setup. Will be bringing another guitar for a tune up.

Thank you.

 by Jake P.

Had a great experience with Andrew. I will say it was a little awkward for me to go to someone's apartment and then just leave my guitar there, but when I spoke with him in person and he humbly (but obviously) displayed his great knowledge of guitar work.

I came back the next day, the work was done, the setup was great, he explained to me what he did and answered any questions I had for him. Very kind, very friendly, and an awesome price compared to pretty much everywhere else. I am going to ask him to install some new tuning heads on my guitar as well soon, Great guy, great business. Very happy customer!

 by Robbie G.

Andrew was friendly and knowledgeable. He did a set-up on my guitar in an hour. I later asked him to install a Fishman pick-up and he did a fantastic job overnight. The prices for his work were very reasonable. I will continue to use him in the future.

 by Robert S.

I've been playing guitar for a very long time. I don't want to toot my own horn, so, lets just say that I know the difference between a really good setup and lip service.

I found Andrew on the internet while searching for a good tech, because I was unsatisfied with the services that had been performed by prior Austin techs. I was very pleasantly surprised. Andrew set up two Strats with a two day turnaround and came in under budget... by a significant amount. I think I have found my guy.

I would like to encourage all Austin guitarists to check him out. I rate him 5 stars, based on my experience and will definitely be taking my guitars to him going forward.

 by Sally S.

Fantastic, Andrew is the man!!

 by William M.

Andrew is great. After getting a new PRS SE 24 ( my first decent guitar ), I realized pretty quickly that it needed a proper set up as it would not stay in tune. The action was also way off. I took it to Guitar Center, where I has purchased it, for a set up. It was not a great experience. After a bit if research, I happened upon Andrew's business. After reading his overwhelmingly stellar reviews, I got in contact with him, an dropped off my guitar. He is EXTREMELY knowledgable and patiently answered all my questions. He performed a setup, adjusted the neck, and installed a new Graphtech nut in a very reasonable amount of time. Also, the price I paid for his service was fantastic. The results were immediately noticeable. I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone. A pleasure to do business with!

The stock plastic nut broke on my Epi les Paul, brought it to Andrew and he was helpful explaining the different nut material options. He runs his operation out of his apartment, but he was trained at a guitar shop he worked at a while back. He does great work. I'd never had my guitar set up either, and it was 6 years old, so I asked him if he'd do that as well. He was happy to explain what all needed done in my guitar. Luckily, despite its age, the les Paul didn't need a whole lot of work. He had the nut fixed and the guitar set up the very next day. Andrew is great, and he has a pretty cool cat too, but careful not to let it out of the house. Escape artist.

 by Steven V.

Andrew is great. He definitely knows what he's doing and is super friendly. I took my Schecter custom 4 and had to get completely new electronics and even replace a tuning peg. He bargained with another store to get the tuning peg for cheaper and even gave me a cheaper option of electronics replacement instead of going with the more expensive one I was going to buy. NO GIMMICKS, NO HIDDEN FEES, JUST HONEST and LOYAL business. I highly recommend going to him--he knows his stuff.

 by Brendan M.

I discovered Andrew and SAG last month and he's done setups on two of my guitars already. I can hardly tell you how immensely impressed with his work I am. I've had my '63 Fender Jazzmaster for nearly 12 years and I can say in all complete and absolute honesty it's NEVER played better. This is my main guitar I'm talking about here, I know every last subtlety and nuance about it, and Andrew made it play so incredibly well it's almost like a new guitar in all the very best ways. He did the same for my Tele as well. On top of all that his prices are beyond reasonable. Customer for life here, and YOU should be too!

 by James D.

I recently dropped my Tele off for a quick tune-up. Super quick turnaround and great work done by Andrew. He's got my business in the future.

A buddy of mine has a Washburn guitar that he cherishes. Unfortunately for him, it fell and the neck cracked just below the headstock. He took it to a couple places to get it repaired, but eventually the headstock separated from the body completely. I told him to let me take it to Andrew at South Austin Guitar Repair and voila, the Washburn is back in business.

Andrew's price was very fair (a little less than $60), and my buddy is happy as a clam with the results. If I have any problems with my Fender Marauder, I'll no doubt be giving Andrew a call before looking anywhere else.

I needed an additional pickup on my Gibson EB0 bass, and Andrew at South Austin Guitar Repair did a great job. He ordered the pickup, got it fast and one day after the bass war ready and great sounding !

This man knows what he's doing. He masters electronics and his work with wood is perfect ! I have another bass I need to upgrade and I will give it to him fore sure.

Andrew is a cool guy and answered to all my questions very clearly.

He is probably one of the best in town !

Andrew is very professional, personable, thorough, efficient, and affordable. I was quoted about $700 for repairing my Taylor 414ce. I looked at other options and found Andrew's website. This isn't his "day job" - so don't expect a fancy store front. The business is run out of his home, but one look at the cleanliness and taste level was enough to calm my nerves. The small crack is still visible, but she works again. He had her done in under 24 hours! The local "certified" guitar repair was a two or more week wait for the same job! Overall, I am pleased with the job. I am considering having him fix the aesthetic of the crack, and know he would do a stellar job.

I heard about South Austin Guitar Repair first from a buddy when I broke the head on my Explorer. Andrew was able to fix it no problem in just a couple days for a cheap price. He has since then worked on other guitars of mine from small tune ups to breaks and it always works out great. I have referred him to friends and they as well have been pleased with Andrew's work.

Mustang is great...thanks so much for the save.

Absolutely A+++ service!!! Affordable, very fast turnaround time, and personal attention. So much better than dropping off gear at a guitar shop and hoping that someone lays hands on it inside of 2 weeks. No "asshole guitar guy" attitude whatsoever, which makes dealing with Andrew a charm. I highly recommend!!!

A pleasure to do business with!

 by Tom M.

Thanks again Andrew! Enjoying the guitar!

 by Jason B.

I did the research, I read the reviews. Could Andrew be that good? HELL YES! My vintage Epiphone hollow body electric from 1961 needed some delicate electronics work. In business they say speed, price, quality... pick any two. With Andrew there is no compromise; you get all three. He finished the work fast, at a reasonable price, with the highest quality. It's been a long, long time since this guitar has sounded like I knew it could.

Also, Andrew transformed an old Japanese Stratocaster Squire into a guitar with a unique quality and awesome playability. He suggested and installed upgraded Seymour Duncan pickups, cleaned up the frets and pots, and adjusted the neck and bridge. And to think, I had considered smashing up this guitar on video and chucking it in a landfill.

As others have said, Andrew is a genuinely nice human being who loves what he does. It's nice to see some people still have integrity.

Andrew did an incredibly quick of my pickup upgrade and J-pup installation. Friendly, cheap, and great craftsmanship!

Andrew is a great guy who recently helped me fix my Ibanez guitar. I hadn't played on this guitar for years because I messed with the floyd rose and couldn't figure out how to fix it myself. For a great price, he gave my guitar a setup, fixed the electronics (there were some problems with the electronics), and cleaned the dust off. I would highly recommend him to anyone, because he has a quick turn around and is always there to answer your questions.

Andrew at South Austin Guitar Repair is a pro. The work he did for me was top notch and it didn't take 2 to 3 weeks like some other shops. He is also much more affordable.

So if your tired of waiting for forever to get a repair or upgrade done only to find out it's not what you wanted, do yourself a favor and go see Andrew. He is the ONLY person I will ever go to as long as I'm in Austin.

Fast, inexpensive, and quality work.

If you think this is too good to be true, you're wrong! Its better than that. Andrew's work is supurb.

My Les Paul fell out its stand and the neck splintered. The break was not all the way through. I was sick! CRAPOLA right?

I found this man, two days later, I had the guitar back and its plays like it's supposed to. Stays in tune, and feels pretty solid.

Thank You so much Andrew

I recently had guitar done by Andrew at South Austin Guitar Repair. I am a professional musician who travels around Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana weekly performing 3 to 4 nights a week.

I emailed Andrew about my Gibson LP Custom, needed a bridge replacement, and a set up. Andrew responded the next morning, was very interested in helping, and we met the following day to give him the guitar. Very nice guy, talked for a good second, and i asked if it was possible to have the guitar ready the next day as i needed to depart for gigs. Andrew called me that very evening and asked for details of my preference in guitar action, removing string buzz, etc. I met with Andrew the following morning with my guitar ready. I was seriously amazed how fast he was able to do this and get it back to me.* He explained all that he did, and if i needed any adjustments, that he would tend to them quickly and immediately. I played my guitar for 2 gigs this week. My guitar has never felt so good, the action was perfect, the intonation was perfect, and the adjustment he did to the nut of the guitar was excellent. Andrew is now my permanent guitar go to guy. Excellent pricing, great guy, great attitude, perfect work.

***The reason i say i was amazed how fast his guitar work was done, is because as i have also had guitar and amp work done at Austin Vintage Guitar. Not that they do not have good work done, but i recently took my Super Sonic there for a retube and bias. it has now been 3 weeks and they still haven't even called about an invoice. I have had a set up done there before, and it took a week to get my guitar back, it was way more expensive than Andrew, and i had to go back because i wasn't satisfied with the work. Anyone residing in Austin. Andrew is your guy. His work is fantastic. I've never been so happy and comfortable with my Guitars Playing.

Thank You Andrew. Julian, Professional Musician, Wedding Performer, Event Performer. Cover Band's - Top 40, Rock, Ozzy Tribute.

Score another touchdown for South Austin Guitar Repair! New Tele from eBay needed a set-up and input jack rewire. Andrew did great work quickly and inexpensively.

High quality, quick, affordable guitar work ... without the hassle or attitude. Nice work South Austin Guitar Repair!

I highly recommend South Austin Guitar Repair. Andrew took care of my guitar's problem for a very reasonable price. After his adjustment, the guitar sounds great! Service was excellent and the job was finished much faster than I expected.

 by Manny V.

I took my already slightly modded Ibanez Xiphos to Andrew for a neck swap/brass nut conversion. Within a few days it was ready!! He made a neck with a locking nut work on a fixed bridge guitar ! He had assured me from the git go he could make it work . He did his magic and what I got back was something of epic proportion. I can't praise Andrew enough for what he's done to my guitars.

 by Julian R.

EXCELLENT WORK! Before he set up my Les Paul, I was actually considering selling it because it wasn't quite as comfortable as I thought it should be. After taking it to Andrew, it's like a completely different guitar! Awesome work for absurdly little money! Whenever I have some work I need done, he's my guy!

 by Ross

Andrew fixed the action and intonation on my Parker P-36. It plays a lot better now. The service was friendly and turnaround time was quick. I plan on taking a few more instruments to him in the near future!

 by Ryan H.

My tele needed and upgrade...I wanted a humbucker in my neck and kill switch by the tone. Andrew did a great job on my telecaster. He explained exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it; giving me great piece of mind. There was one hiccup with the pick up, but he called me right away to let me know the situation. My telecaster turned out great, sounds phenomenal and I would definitely go back to Andrew for any future work on any of my guitars.

Also, I was shocked at how reasonable his pricing was, particularly for the quality of work he does.

I brought my latest edition to my collection an Ibanez Rg 350 EX to Andrew. It was pretty good as I had aquired it but I wanted more. I found a set of Seymour Duncan Invaders on c list and Andrew suggested a pickup for the single coil position. A Seymour Duncan also. He setup/wired it and I'm a loss for words how it changed the guitar overall . The pickup combo is so powerful yet super clean when needed. As I mentioned in my other review, Andrew is the man!! Thanks dude u rule !!

 by Manny V.

Just got my Ibanez Xiphos back and I was ecstatic ! Andrew took a guitar I got off of eBay awhile back and did his magic.i had been playing it pretty much off the shelf as it was when I reconnected with Andrew. I brought him the pickups/strings  and in 2 days he was finished. What I got back was a tricked out guitar that not only looks bad ass but plays/sounds just as well . Thanks Andrew!

I found Andrew based on the Yelp reviews. I had purchased all the parts for a custom Fender strat job. I just needed a professional to put it all together for me. Andrew was great. He was very communicative and friendly (which is rare in the music business). He works out of his home, but I was reassured when I saw some of his personal custom jobs. He really knows his stuff and has been doing this professionally for years. It only took him two days to complete the job, even though he had to do some extra work to get all the parts to fit properly. The bridge I bought didn't fit quite right and he needed to make a few other modifications. You can't even tell he had to modify the body. The guitar looks great and sounds even better. I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer.

Andrew was great. He was able to set my guitar straight in no time at all. He diagnosed and corrected the issue while I waited. If you have a guitar issue, I recommend South Austin Guitar Repair.  I know I'll be going back with any future guitar problems I may have.

 by John C.

I grew up kind of poor and resultantly learned how to set up and perform most repairs on my own instruments.  I've actually never had to take an instrument into the shop for a repair or modification I couldn't perform.  Recently, one of my guitars, a neck through (harder to work on), developed an issue with its nut; mainly because it was one of the cheap, plastic nuts that Ibanez seems to use on all but their super high end guitars.  The issue was causing 1st fret buzz on the low E string regardless of how much relief was put in the neck.  I was also having an issue with the D string slot being lower than all the others.  The nut itself was also deeper than most.  I didn't have the tools, the time, or the knowledge to fix it, so I started looking around Austin for shops and found Andrew.

Andrew looked the instrument over for a few minutes and quoted me the repair price to cut a new nut from brass.  (I change strings and tunings a lot and bend quite a bit and was worried about wearing out a bone nut like I had the plastic one.)  It turns out the nut was too deep for Andrew to use standard nut stock.  He informed me that he'd have to source some other brass stock and that it would likely add an additional day to the repair.  I said no problem and went on my way.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I received a call almost exactly 48 hours later from the time of drop-off that my instrument was ready.  The repair job was seamless despite Andrew having to cut through the clear coat of the neck to remove the old nut (Ibanez and their overspray.)  The nut was perfect, requiring no adjustments after its installation and will likely never need to be replaced again unless/until a refret is required.   Total charge, even with having to source different brass stock, $75.  I have absolutely no complaints.

Andrew is GREAT! He's the oasis in the desert, a beacon of light in the cold dark night...

There are a lot of music shops in austin with repair centers and we have tried all of them. They all suck. Once, perhaps, they ruled but that was in the past and boy do they suck now. We take our guitars in about twice a year for general maintenance, we were used to just getting shoddy service and cut corners, at a high price. I mean that's just Austin, right?

NOPE!!! It is so relieving to find a place like South Austin Guitar Repair. As long as Andrew is around we will be sure to keep taking our business to him! Here's why:

-He's an all around nice dude! Doesn't make you feel like an idiot.

-Super fast & efficient. He took 2 days to set up 3 guitars (jazzmaster, wilshire, mustang bass), the other places we used to take em to would take a month!

-Insanely affordable, moreso than anyone else in town. A third of the price.

-Competent. The intonation and action is superb. In addition, we had an issue with a jack on one of the guitars which was stripped by another repair shop in town that we continued to frequent. Every time we asked them to fix it, they'd just wiggle it in slightly and say they couldn't, charge us $20 anyway in addition to their $60 set up charge. Andrew replaced the jack for $5. Set-up charge? $25. Holy moly!!! Ima cry...

Only a few cons that are slight things in compared to his awesomeness, just be aware of em and don't let them scare you away:

-Yes it is in North Austin, not South Austin...right by Alamo Village.

-He works out of his home, so it's kind of a tucked away spot down a tiny street up three flights of stairs.

-He does this stuff in addition to his real job so be sure to plan ahead!

-Because it is not a shop you will have to make sure to get your strings ahead of time. But you already do that, right?

Overall, incredibly pleased. Do hit him up!!!

 by John A.

Although Andrew is not located in South Austin, I'd still recommend taking your gear to him. He brought my 96 telecaster back to life, installed two pickups replaced the switch, fixed the shorted in the wires, and set it up. He also fixed my chromatic tuner pedal by replacing the 9 volt connector. very good price, the kook at guitar center wanted to charge me 150 (without the pedal) and Straight Frets told me 160! Andrew saved me 30 bucks! plus I dropped it off to him Friday afternoon and he called me to pick it up Saturday evening! THANKS ANDREW!

 by Kelly K.

I am happy to continue the string of stellar reviews for Andrew's work. I had him set-up and replace the pick-guard on my G&L Legacy and cannot be happier with the results. The price was more than fair and the turn around time was quicker than I expected. I will not hesitate to have my guitars repaired at South Austin Guitar Repair in the future.

 by Michael W.

Andrew provided excellent setup service for my guitar, was quick to get it done, very reasonable priced, and was friendly as well.  Hell, even his cat was friendly.  Can't think of anything else you could hope for.  Even gave the same price for a 12 string as a 6 string!

I highly recommend you give him a try.

 by Bob F.

Read the reviews here and decided to take my guitar in to have the setup checked.  Andrew immediate saw that changes were needed; had the changes made and ready same day for $25.  Nothing but good things to say!!

 by Dan B.

South Austin Guitar Repair's name is a little misleading since they are actually located in North Austin.

I initially took my Ibanez to Guitar Center where it sat for almost 6 weeks without being touched. Brought it over to Andrew who diagnosed the issue that day and had the needed parts on order that evening.

Labor prices were more than reasonable, service was quick and thorough and the overall experience exceeded my expectations.

If you need any service for your guitars I would highly recommend Andrew.

 by Miguel O.

I had Andrew install 2 custom pups in my les paul. Andrew was honest and the best price around (I checked with about 5 places in Austin). He works out of his home. You just drop off the gear and he calls you when it's finished. The work was quality. Also.. he had a quick turnaround time and while I was picking up my guitar another guy showed up to drop off about 3 more.

 by Sarunas J.

I needed some work to be done on a hollow body guitar - swapping pickups, adding a new bone nut and giving it a setup. I found Andrew after researching reviews here. He did a terrific job on all of it and finished it on the same day - action and intonation was just right and the nut was cut out perfectly. Andrew has thorough answers to all questions about guitar or bass repairs and equipment. Quality, great communication, unbeatable price. Highly recommended.

 by Mark D.

I had Andrew set up the Floyd Rose tremolo on a used guitar I just purchased, and it was a great experience.

He did an outstanding job for a really reasonable price, and the turnaround time was amazing, particularly given my experience with some other people here in town.

Andrew works out of his house, so you'll need to call and arrange a time to drop off your instrument, but he was very flexible, and it's definitely worth the effort.

 by Jack N.

Andrew was exactly as advertised - prompt, professional and friendly.

I brought him a fire-damaged vintage guitar, given to me after the death of one of my best friends who was a musician.  It's value to me is immeasurable, and once it got damaged in the devastating fire we experienced, I felt about as low as possible.

I found Andrew on Yelp and called him.  He was patient as I explained my problem, and positive that he could help.

After drop off, he called me back within a day to quote a price which was more than fair I thought.  Within two more days he contacted me to come pick it up.

As I hold my 1968 Harmony Rocket in my hands today, it looks as good, if not better, than it did before the fire.

I told Andrew how much it meant to me to have this back and clean and working, and he seemed genuinely touched.

Five BIG stars for South Austin Guitar Repair - even if they're really not in South Austin anymore.

Andrew did a great job in a short time for a great price.  Could not be happier.  He is very knowledgeable and courteous.  Will have all my future repairs and setup done through him.

Took my jazzmaster to Andrew for a setup and to fix a loose volume pot. He got it done the same day and for a very reasonable price.

I recently picked up a used Jackson DK2 that needed a fair bit of TLC.  I usually do my own setups but I just could not get this one exactly where I  wanted it.  So I got in contact with Andrew based on the reviews here.  He got that extra little bit I was looking for.

He's professional, honest, and quick.  Highly recommended.  If I ever need someone else to do a setup for me, I won't hesitate to call him again.

Andrew was very cool and professional. He did a terrific job setting up my PRS.

 by Steve Y.

Andrew set up my Ibanez seven string and loaded it with Dimarzio pickups. He did an excellent job and got my guitar back to me the same day. It plays and sounds great now. I highly recommend him for your instrument repair. The dude is a pro, knows his stuff and is very affordable.

 by J.Y.

I'm not outstanding at guitar. I've played piano and violin since I was 5 but guitar was something I picked up when I was in high school. I haven't even had time to play in the last 2 years, but I wanted to pick it up again. When I last left my RGT42DX, the edge bridge made me angry all the time and I played my cheap Epiphone LP special more often just bc I didn't want to wrestle with the tremolo.

Well, crap, I gave the guitar to Andrew sometime around 11am today, and I got the call from him about 1:20pm that it was done. Cost $25 for a full setup, and my tremolo TUNES PROPERLY NOW. He's very professional, very helpful, and I like his cats. After failing at online tutorials for guitar maintenance for many years, Andrew gets my RG working like awesome, and life is good. I highly recommend this guy, and I'll be asking to replace my stock pickups with Evolutions soon probably.

 by Richard M.

I am forever indebted to Andrew for my reunion with my old friend, a Harmony arch top that was made in the late 50s or early 60s. I had been playing it since 1966. The neck had started to become dislodged from the body and I had taken it to a few places that basically wouldn't even touch it. I called Andrew and he told me to bring it on by and he had it fixed in a few days for a price lower than the other places quoted, if they would have "had the time to work on it."

He did a great job with the repair and did not charge too much and I am extremely happy with what he did and the way he did it as well. He is an extremely nice guy, who has an extensive knowledge about guitars and I would recommend to anybody to give him a call, especially when you get tired of trying all the places listed under guitar repair, only to be told they can't fix your guitar.

 by Eric B.

Andrew was great.  Very professional and thorough.  I had dusted off an old electric that was sitting in a garage for ten years.  He got it singing like new in less than a day.  The man knows his guitars.  Check him out.
